We need to reign in technology, because it is a wild beast at this moment, and use it for educational purposes, but this requires a team effort on behalf of the teachers, admin, students, and parents. Students should only have technology at school for learning and on the weekends for reinforcement of what they covered in school.

MY RESPONSE:

When students get home after school all electronic devices should be taken or hidden from the students and in replacement of screens time they can do a puzzle, read a book, color, or work on other hands-on non-electronic activities that help build their critical thinking and enrich their lives.

MY REASONING:

In the statement of faith and work, it states “God placed human beings in this world and made us responsible for cultivating and caring for creation” (GCU, 2020).  That doesn’t just apply to animal rights, in the field of education it means the students and their families. It took me 4 years of being in the education field to finally understand, that we not only teach students but parents as well. I found that so ridiculous my first year of teaching, now I understand because some families do not have the resources or access to higher education to know any better. Ignorance is not an excuse for us, and we must educate those within our reach with respect and love, just as Jesus taught his disciples and all those within his reach.

MY ADVICE:

One way to engage in professional learning networks is to find virtual and local training in the subject and try to communicate with others in different states or regions of the world doing the same subject. Recently, there was a virtual Scratch seminar and there were educators from Mexico and Germany, and in another virtual training for Minecraft the trainer was live from Australia, those were amazing opportunities to establish contacts for future courses and lessons, if done with a PLN mindset. We must take advantage of future opportunities and share through online portfolios such as this and even future professional development training.
